I know this because I work with them and I lived it!
I NEVER thought of myself as someone with a shut down voice. I travelled and taught internationally to dozens and hundreds of people, on stage, TV, in classrooms and in training programs. I even trained on a microphone for over 5 years! I was sure that my voice had no problems.
But guess what I did notice:
My voice was not always heard or met in 1-to-1 conversations
I was utterly terrified of speaking my truth when I knew it went against those I was speaking to
I carried alot of repressed anger and rage which I had no idea was impacting my voice and expression
I had trouble being seen as anything but perfect
Although I didn’t have trouble ‘speaking’, it often felt like people couldn’t hear me
